Homicide Suspect Captured
On July 06, 2023 the United States Marshal’s Smoky Mountain Task Force, Knox County Sheriff’s Office and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Nathaniel Kain McEwan for charges related to the February 14, 2023 (Valentines Day) homicides on Hawkins Road. After the homicides McEwan fled to Florida where was believed to have been until recently. McEwan was indicted in June 2023 by a Monroe County Grand Jury for two counts of Felony Murder, three counts of attempted first degree murder, conspiracy to commit first degree murder, employment of a firearm during a dangerous felony, attempted especially aggravated burglary and reckless endangerment. McEwan is alleged to have been an active participant in the shootings on Hawkins Road along with Liu Huerta, Itzhui Huerta, Malachi Franklin and Francisco Lagunas Junior.
