Tommy J Jones, Sheriff
Monroe County Sheriff's Office
Monroe County, TN - On Monday, March 21, 2022, at 11:02 PM Deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office were attempting to serve a felony arrest warrant in the 100 block of Dunn Road. Upon making contact at the residence deputies could hear the wanted subject speaking to another subject inside the residence. Deputies removed one subject from the residence who was unrelated to the arrest warrant and began to make entry.
Upon making entry, Deputies were met by the female suspect who was brandishing an Ar-15 style rifle. The suspect pointed the rifle at deputies, forcing deputies to respond with gunfire. After the exchange of gunfire, the suspect was able to close the door to the residence.
Deputies established a perimeter and Monroe County Sheriffs Office SWAT and Madisonville Police Department SRT were requested on scene. Attempts to make contact with the subject were made, with no response. SWAT team members deployed a non-lethal chemical agent into the residence in an attempt to get the subject to comply with commands and surrender. The decision was made to enter the residence, and SWAT Team members located the female subject in the doorway with the rifle still in her hands, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Medical aid was given to the subject and she was pronounced deceased on scene.
Per the Monroe County Sheriffs Office policy, the deputy involved in the shooting is placed on administrative leave, and the investigation has been turned over to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Sheriff Tommy Jones asks for your thoughts and prayers for all parties involved.
