Deputy Put on Suspension and Probation for Racial Slur

MONROE COUNTY TN - A Monroe County Sheriff's deputy has admitted to yelling a racial slur as seen in a video which surfaced on social media last weekend. Sheriff Tommy Jones has identified the man as Deputy Billy Littleton. The video was recorded approximately one year ago. Deputy Littleton was off duty and on private property at the time.

Sheriff Jones issued a statement about the incident, saying "I'm highly appalled by the language, language that is not supported by the Monroe County Sheriff's Department and will not be tolerated."

Littleton will face several disciplinary actions:
- A 30-day suspension without pay
- One year of probation, during which Littleton will automatically be terminated if he breaks any department policy
- Mandatory racial sensitivity training through the county's Human Resources Department
- Ineligibility for future sergeant promotion

Sheriff Jones imposed these actions to emphasize to the people of Monroe County that this incident is being taken very seriously, adding "We will do everything to change this behavior and to do our due diligence. We owe that to our citizens."
